With the 55˚ bottle opener we challenged ourselves to create a tiny everyday object made from shelf material or potential industry waste. The result is a nitty-gritty bottle opener that will serve you well for a couple of lifetimes. With a gentle nod towards brutalist architecture, this little object might also have a life outside of your kitchen drawer.
A cut at 55˚ is what transforms a rectangular steel tube into a functional bottle opener—hence the name. In production, only a fraction of the material is lost due to the cut itself. This means we achieve a guesstimated exploitation rate of 96%.
With 55˚ we aim to highlight the beauty of the raw material. The scratches and color nuances are traces from the production process, and indicators of how the product came to be. Over time the steel will interact with its surroundings and bear traces of use. If subjected to moisture, the surface may corrode.
